Award for the Best Video

All entrants must adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Aim: To create a communication tool for raised awareness of palliative care for children, this includes a piece of fiction, a documentary or a community-service announcement. The film can be animated or live-action. It might be funny or serious.
  • Theme: ‘Listen! Really Listen!’  is the theme  for this 5th Maruzza Congress on which  each short film must be based. The theme doesn’t need to be taken literally; it is the concept of giving a voice to children with serious illness and their families as a message to all those involved in providing palliative care and treating pain in a paediatric context. It can regard both verbal and non-verbal communication. Entrants can and should be creative.
  • Language: Films may be in any language or have no dialogue at all. Foreign-language audio (or important on-screen text) must have English subtitles.
  • Technical specifications:
    • Format/codec: Mpeg4 or h.264 (filmed with digital camera or other portable electronic devices)
    • Length: maximum 60 seconds
    • Resolution: Common resolutions for standard definition (SD) video include 640 × 480 px (4:3 aspect ratio) and 640 × 360 px (16:9 aspect ratio). High definition (HD) video is usually formatted at 720p (1280 × 720 px) or 1080p (1920 × 1080 px)
    • Size: maximum 15 Megabite
    • Audio: The AAC-LC codec, at 320 kbit/s and 48 kHz (maximum), is recommended (be sure to adhere to copyright rules!)

Important: To be able to submit films the Entrants must be registered for the 5th Congress.
Once payment has cleared, the video can be uploaded at the link communicated by the Congress Organizer.
Entrants must read the terms and condition carefully before submitting a film.

Terms & Conditions

By entering the ‘Award for the Best Videos’ (‘Competition’), competition entrants (‘Entrants’) agree to be bound by the following terms and conditions. Failure to abide by these terms and conditions may render an Entrant ineligible for the Competition.

The competition is only open to delegates registered to participate in the Congress. To be eligible, Entrants must complete the registration form on the Congress website, process payment and submit their film as indicated in the instructions. Unless agreed otherwise with the Congress Organiser, registration forms or materials received via any other method shall be destroyed and will not be considered a valid submission.

Each film may only be submitted once.

The deadline for film submission is the 15th of April 2022.

The Maruzza Foundation reserves the right to use Entrant’s content (including all or part of any film submitted by an Entrant) in any manner they choose. Submission of an entry constitutes consent to the Maruzza Foundation to use the content in this way and also to use the Entrant’s name and photo for publicity purposes.

The rights for all material submitted must be available/free for all media.

All copyright, moral rights and rights of personality for all content, including music and actors, must be cleared/free. Failure to clear these rights will result in removal of the entry from consideration in the competition.

Two kinds of copyright can be involved:
Music: it is necessary to use Royalty-free music or the copyright on the musical composition. This copyright is connected to the writer(s) of the music and is usually administered by a publishing company (in other words, you will usually be dealing with a publisher rather than with composers/songwriters themselves).

The Maruzza Foundation takes no responsibility for any failure by an Entrant to obtain the necessary authorisations.

Entrants warrant that their films (and any material contained in their films, including, but not limited to, any clip) do not infringe the intellectual property rights or any other rights of any person. (Entrants (or their parents/guardians) will fully indemnify Maruzza Foundation against any loss, costs, expenses, demands or liability, whether direct or indirect, arising out of a claim by a third party or another party.)

The Competition judges’ decisions are final and no correspondence or discussion will be entered into regarding the judging process or any outcomes reached.
